Notre maison brûle et nous regardons ailleurs
2023. Pastel on beech plywood, 50x60x1.5 cm each.
Ongoing research featuring the fire that burns our earth, but we don't really see it because the artwork never shows the flames.
In line with my work on raw reused materials, I choose wood as a support as it is a most flammable material and comes from our burning forests.
The title of this project is the emblematic excerpt from the french President Chirac's speech at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002: "Our house is burning, and we are looking elsewhere". 21 years later the conscience of the populations is barely beginning to wake up following the mega fires of which the planet is victim, among other so-called natural disasters, but political actions are still non-existent despite repeated warnings from scientists.
